The Most Precious Gift: The Relationship With Self

When you nurture and heal your present self, you establish the fundamental unit needed for genuine health.

Have you ever heard that the most important person you’ll ever meet is yourself? It's true! Think about it: you are with yourself 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for your entire life. That's a super-long time!

The greatest gift you can ever give yourself is a strong, healthy friendship with the person in the mirror. When you take the time to care for, understand, and cheer on the you of today, you are building the strongest base for a happy and healthy life. It’s like setting the main foundation stone for a giant building—if that one is solid, everything else stands strong!

Why We Sometimes Feel Lost (The Self-Disconnect)

Sometimes, life throws us a curveball. Maybe a big disappointment, a scary event, or a time when you felt really hurt or ignored. The grown-up word for this is trauma, but all it really means is that a part of you—a piece of your inner team—got lost or disconnected.

Imagine your "Self" is a powerful sports team. When something painful happens, one of your teammates (a part of your feelings or your memories) might run off the field and hide because they are scared. You might try to pretend that part isn't there. When those parts are disconnected, you can feel mixed up, unsure of yourself, or just plain lost. It's like your team is playing the game, but your star player (your real self) is sitting in the locker room!

The EDHIR® Process: Bringing Your Team Home

My whole job, after years of learning and helping others, became about creating a clear path to bring those "lost teammates" back. I call this the EDHIR® Process, and it’s basically a five-step mission to become whole again:

1. Explore/Experience: Find the Lost Members
What it means: First, you have to look for all those different versions of you that feel separated. You don’t judge them; you just gently try to find and notice them.

2. Discover/Digest: Get to Know Them
What it means: When you find a part of you that’s sad, angry, or scared, you sit with it. You talk to that feeling like it’s a friend. You let yourself feel the emotions it brings, even if they’re tough, instead of pushing them away. It's like listening to your friend’s whole story.

3. Heal/Honor: Give Them What They Need
What it means: Now that you know their story, you bring them into a safe, inner space. This is your safe zone, your "home base." You honor that part by giving it exactly what it needs—maybe it’s kindness, understanding, a feeling of safety, or just some peace.

4. Integrate: Form a United Front
What it means: After those parts have been healed and cared for, you bring them back into the main team. They are no longer hiding! You create one strong, united "You."

5. Release/Re-pattern/Relate: Keep the Team Working
What it means: This is where you practice the new you. You let go of the old, broken story (the "release"). You start making new, better choices and habits (the "re-pattern"). Most importantly, you learn how to have a great, ongoing relationship with your now-healed and complete self (the "relate"). It’s a job you do every day, but it gets easier and more natural over time!

The Power of Having Your Own Back

When you do this work, something amazing happens. You start to feel super strong and confident. That voice that used to say, “Wait, are you sure?” (the self-doubt) gets quieter and quieter. When you have a big decision to make, you don't second-guess yourself anymore, because your whole team is on the same page. You know you've got your own back.

The most precious thing I’ve learned is this simple truth: The relationship with yourself is your most important connection. You are your own home. When you fully accept and love every part of yourself, no matter what mistakes were made in the past, you create an inner peace that nobody can take away.

This strong, steady base inside your mind, body, and heart is what allows all the good things in life—joy, true friendships, success—to finally shine through!

Healing is the beginning of a super-powered life.
